What is a cake smash session?
There is nothing more exciting than baby’s first birthday! This is a year full of “Firsts”!  The first time rolling over, the first time eating real foods, the first time…smashing a cake! A smash cake session is a fun way to document your baby’s first year of life.  Let your little one cut loose in our studio, it’s time to celebrate!

When should I schedule a cake smash session?
At least 2 weeks before your child's 1st birthday.  This gives us time to discuss theme/colors for your child's session.  I also need to contact the baker a week before the session with your desired theme/colors for the cake.  

What should my child wear?
Anything you would like! Maybe something to match the theme or colors of your session?  For girls- tutu's with a onesie or rompers look really cute. For boys- solid t's and jeans or button down with a tie and jeans look great.  You can use your outfit for the cake smash part or one of ours. It's up to you!

What does the cake smash package include?The session fee includes the photographer’s time and talent, 30 minute studio session (depending on the session booked), a customized boutique smash cake, balloons, decorations, a customized backdrop, online proofing gallery along with 10 fully edited high-resolution digital images. The optional add on splash sessions also include a super fun milk bath splash following the cake smash, making clean up a breeze!! We also have some outfits available is studio to use if you do not already have one picked out. If you have any special ideas, you would like us to incorporate, please let us know ahead of time so we can make sure to accommodate. Once you book your session, we will coordinate with you to determine the theme you would like, color schemes and any props you have in mind. We take care of organizing all of that, so the pictures look perfect! What if my child doesn't eat the cake?

What if my child doesn't eat the cake?
This does happen.  Some children love the cake smash and dig right in.  Others are hesitant.  I recommend making a cupcake or small cake and introducing the cake smash idea before (a few days/weeks before) our session date.  This way, your child will be familiar with the process and will know that they can smash the cake.  Also, bring or have on hand puffs or cheerios so we can stuff them into the cake.  Your child will want to grab them out of the cake and eat it. 

Will I get messy?
You definitely will!  You will have to show your child that he/she can eat the cake so you might have to take a bite yourself.  Yum!  Also, your child may want a hug or to be held. You will almost certainly get frosting on your clothes so don't wear anything you do not want to get ruined.   

How will we clean up?
The best part about the cake smash session is that we take care of the outfit, the decorations and the cleanup! Don't worry about bringing towels or baby wipes, we have everything here to make your baby's session as smooth and stress free as possible!

How long does it take to receive my images?
Because we hand edit each image and take time to create a personalized in studio viewing and ordering experience, you can expect your initial image proofs within 3-5 business days following your session. Final edits will be completed and sent out within 5-7 business days after selections are made. We know the wait is tough so in the mean time we will post a sneak peek to our social media – we would love for you to follow along.
